Kollywood ’s biggest star Vijay is set to make his final silver-screen appearance with ‘Jana Nayagan’, officially locked for a Pongal 2026 release on January 9. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film carries massive expectations as it marks Vijay’s last movie before he transitions fully into active politics.
Adding to the Pongal excitement, Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Parasakthi’, helmed by Sudha Kongara, is also part of the festive race. The film was initially announced for a January 14 release and is being distributed across Tamil Nadu by Red Giant Movies.
However, fresh industry buzz suggests a possible twist. According to reports, the makers of Parasakthi are considering preponing the release to January 10, which would bring it face-to-face with Jana Nayagan at the box office, triggering a high-voltage Pongal clash.
Interestingly, this speculation gained momentum after Vijay’s sharp criticism of the ruling DMK at a TVK public meeting on December 18, with news of the potential date change surfacing the very next day — a timing that has sparked widespread discussion in film and political circles alike.
As of now, there is no official confirmation from the Parasakthi team regarding the revised release date. Until an announcement is made, fans will have to wait and watch.
One thing is certain — Pongal 2026 is gearing up to be one of the most talked-about and competitive seasons in Tamil cinema history.
