Zero Movie Review : Zero Wins For Emotions !

Zero marks Shah Rukh Khan's first big release of 2018 and it is a highly anticipated one. For the first time in his career, Shah Rukh Khan plays Bauua Singh, a vertically challenged man who is looking for a bride. Anushka Sharma plays a paraplegic scientist, while Katrina Kaif is portraying the character of an alcoholic actress. The movie also starsTigmanshu Dhulia, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Brijendra Kala and Abhay Deol. Apart from these actors, Zero also features a slew of cameos in Salman Khan, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Karishma Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, R Madhavan and the late Sridevi.

In Zero Bauua is always the Hero, accompanied by a best friend (Ayyub) whose only job is to prop him (Bauua) up, who is enmeshed in a love triangle, who soars over his difficulties while singing and dancing and romancing. That vertically challenged bit should have been the differentiator. But it’s nothing but window dressing, a hook on which hangs nothing.
The first half is funny and full of memorable one liners, the second half is awe inspiring and full of jaw-dropping plot twists. In essence, it’s a love story and the many experiences attached to it like infatuation, betrayal, heartbreak and an undying desire to make things right again. While we won’t reveal too much about the story, we can tell you that there is a star sized surprise waiting for you.

The plot starts with Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan) looking for a wife at the age of 38. He finds a date with Aafia Yusufzai (Anushka Sharma) and a few unusual conversations later, they both fall in love (and you fall in love with them too). Both of them are imperfect, but they seem perfect for each other. Their families approve too, but there comes a twist in the tale when Babita Kumari (Katrina Kaif) kisses Bauua Singh. There is one department where the film deserves applause and that is the VFX. They make Shah Rukh Khan’s character believable.

Coming to performances, Shah Rukh Khan really impresses us. In his last few movies, the actor had disappointed his fans but here he doesn't. We start loving Bauua for his antics and we feel pity for him when something bad happens. Anushka's character is the toughest one in the film and the actress has done a great job. Though SRK and Anushka are splendid in their respective roles, it is Katrina Kaif who surprises us with her act. Once again a small role, but she nails it as Babita Kumari and we wait to see more of her. Can we please have a bigger role for her?
