Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming action spectacle Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is already one of the most awaited Indian films—and recent buzz has taken the excitement to another level. Speculation is rife that Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan may appear in a special role, setting the stage for a historic pan-India collaboration.
The rumors gained momentum after veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty made an intriguing remark during a Bengali interview with SITI Cinema. When asked about stories that impressed him recently, Mithun revealed (translated from Bengali), “The story of Jailer 2 has deeply impressed me.” He went on to name a lineup of celebrated actors, including Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Shah Rukh Khan, Ramya Krishnan, and Shivarajkumar, sparking immediate fan frenzy.
Adding further intrigue, Mithun subtly hinted that he may play the antagonist, potentially squaring off against this powerhouse ensemble. Clips from the interview quickly went viral, with fans enthusiastically celebrating the possibility of Rajinikanth and Shah Rukh Khan sharing screen space for the first time.
That said, it’s important to note that no official confirmation has been made so far. Neither Sun Pictures, Shah Rukh Khan’s team, nor the film’s makers have addressed the rumors. The original Jailer famously featured surprise appearances by Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, and Jackie Shroff—making such speculation far from implausible.
For the sequel, the reported and confirmed cast includes Mithun Chakraborty, Vijay Sethupathi, Vidya Balan, Vinayakan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Santhanam, alongside the return of key actors from the first installment. The film is being produced by Sun Pictures, with Anirudh Ravichander once again composing the music.
Filming is progressing at a brisk pace and is expected to conclude by January 2026. Industry reports suggest a theatrical release around August 2026, likely timed with a major holiday weekend to maximize box office impact.
Following Jailer 2, Rajinikanth’s next project has yet to be finalized, though it is expected to be backed by Rajkamal Films International.
If the Shah Rukh Khan cameo is officially confirmed, the Rajinikanth–SRK union would mark a truly historic pan-Indian cinematic moment, electrifying audiences across languages and industries.
