Stree 2 crosses Rs. 500 crores nett; SRK’s Jawan record in danger
Stree 2, headlined by Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has shattered the 7-year-old record of Prabhas starrer Baahubali 2. In its third weekend, the horror comedy entertainer made Rs. 48.75 crore nett in India. Baahubali 2’s Hindi version held the biggest third weekend record with Rs.42.55 crores nett, and now Stree 2 has surpassed this record by a good margin.
The overall India collections stand at Rs. 502 crores nett, a mind blowing achievement for a medium budget film. Stree 2 now holds the joint record with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan as both films took 18 days to reach the 500 mark at the Indian box office. Till now, only Baahubali 2 (Hindi), Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, and Animal have made it to this elite list.
SRK’s Jawan fell just short of Rs. 600 crores nett, and looking at the sensational hold today, Stree 2 is set to become the first Bollywood film to rake in Rs. 600 crores nett in India. Also, the postponement of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency will make things easy for this Amar Kaushik’s directorial. Before the release, trade pundits predicted Rs. 400 crore lifetime business for Stree 2, but all the pre-release estimations and predictions are now going for a toss.
