Zoya Akhtar on rumours of Ranveer replacing Shah Rukh in Don 3.

Buzz had it that Shah Rukh Khan has opted out of the third instalment of Don franchise, and the makers are now keen to rope in Ranveer Singh for the lead role on Zoya Akhtar's behest. However, the Gully Boy director has rubbished the rumours saying that there is no truth to it.

It was reported that Shah Rukh Khan left Don 3 for personal reasons and that Zoya Akhtar will likely will charge of the production instead of Farhan. There was also buzz that she was keen on casting Ranveer Singh and collaborate with him again. While that is that, the Gully Boy director has finally broken silence over the entire episode. When quizzed on whether she is in talks with Ranveer Singh for Don 3 at a press event recently, she said, "No, no. That’s absolute nonsense."

On being probed further about the status about the film and if its being made, Zoya added, "Na toh main Farhan Akhtar hoon, nahi main Shah Rukh Khan ya Ritesh Sidhwani hoon (Neither am I Farhan Akhtar, nor am I Shah Rukh Khan or Ritesh Sidhwani)."
It was in 2006 that Shah Rukh Khan and Farhan Akhtar joined hands for a remake of the iconic film Don. If the original attained a cult status in the past few decades, the remake, too, gained the love and appreciation of millennials. Such has been the craze that Akhtar had to turn his Don into a franchise. And now two instalments later, the fans are waiting eagerly for Don 3.

Earlier this year, speculations were rife that Shah Rukh has exclusively left the astronaut biopic, as the plans for Don 3 were in its final stage. Farhan Akhtar was reported to have finally settled down on a script and would begin filing soon. However, all buzz fizzled out with Farhan signing up for a sports-drama titled Toofan with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.
