Ajay Devgn to play, IAF wing commander in Bhuj :The Pride Of India.

Bollywood Actor Ajay Devgn, who was recently seen in the block buster Total Dhamaal, is all set to play Indian Air Force wing commander Vijay Karnik in an upcoming film titled Bhuj The Pride of India.

The feature, based on true incidents, will be penned and directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya. Ajay will play Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, who was the supervisor of Bhuj airport in Gujarat during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.Karnik was in-charge of the Bhuj airbase during the war, which remained operational despite facing heavy bombing from Pakistan. He was accompanied by 50 air force and 60 defence security corps personnel at the airbase.

Karnik and his team reconstructed the destroyed Indian Air Force airstrip at Bhuj in Gujarat with the help of local women. He convinced 300 women from a nearby village to rebuild the airstrip so that a flight carrying Indian Army officers could land safely.

Talking about the film, Bhushan Kumar told a leading daily, "This courageous tale needs to be told because we want the current and the coming generation to know about this brave soldier, Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, who played a significant role in India’s victory in the 1971 war. He was heroic enough to take this bold step of involving civilians in a war. Also, who better than Ajay Devgn for the role of Vijay Karnik? We are working with him currently in De De Pyaar De and Taanaji, and we are glad that he is on board for this film, too."

Ajay Devgn has essayed the role of a cop in Singham series and an army man in Zameen, among other films, but this will be the first time he will play an Indian Air Force officer.

Karnik had also shared his experiences during the time, saying he had briefed the civilians where they could take shelter if attacked and they followed it bravely. "I could only see Ajay Devgn essaying my character and I’m glad that he’s on board,” added Karnik.

Ajay Devgn is currently riding high on the success of Total Dhamaal, which crossed Rs 150 crore mark in India recently.
