Superstar Rajinikanth's Petta is still running successfully in theatres across Tamil Nadu. However, the success of Petta is a special for the fans of Superstar as the film has brought back the 'vintage Rajinikanth' to the silver screen.
Petta Surpasses Sarkar:
Petta, according to sources, might earn Rs 253+ Cr (GBP 28.7 million) mark at the worldwide box office. It is said that the film has grossed Rs 237 crore worldwide at the end of 18 days of its theatrical run.As per the trade reports,the film has broken the record of Thalapathy Vijay's Sarkar. Since Rajinikanth commands a huge fan base in the US, the film is running packed houses in the US. As of now, Petta has breached the $2.5M-mark, which indicates that the film has minted Rs 17.72 crore in the country.
Chennai box office:
In the third weekend, Petta has grossed Rs 86.50 lakh from 225 shows. The total collection of the movie by the end of 18 days stands at 14.04 crore.It is now at the 4th highest-grosser in Chennai. Ajith's Viswasam nearly beat Petta in its third-weekend collection as it earned Rs 86.25 lakh. Yet, the total collection of the Rajinikanth-starrer is way higher than Ajith's film as it ended its total collection of the flick is Rs 11.37 crore.Credit for the success of the film should also go to director Karthik Subbaraj.
The film is having a dream run and proves that Rajinikanth is a one-man show and any movie will run on his name only. It is a matter of pride for him that his last six films have all crossed Rs 100 crores (GBP 10.6 million).The film is vintage Rajinikanth at his best, and his fans have loved it. Rajinikanth is well past 60 but that does not affect his popularity, and people like to see him romancing the much younger Trisha, who is the heroine of the film. She doesn't have much to do as Rajinikanth hogs the limelight.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vijay Sethupathi, Sasi Kumar, Simran and Trisha played important roles in Petta. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the songs for the film, which has been produced by Sun Pictures.
Rajinikanth is next teaming up with AR Murugadoss for a commercial entertainer.
