Nota Review : Anand Shankar and Vijay Devarakonda Serve Up A Classy Political Drama.

NOTA starring Vijay Devarakonda, Mehreen Kaur Pirzada,  Sathya Raj and Nassar has hit the theaters today on 5th October. Vijay Devarakonda is playing the Chief Minister. Directed by Anand Shankar of ‘Iru Mugan’ and ‘Arima Nambi’ fame and produced by Studio Green banner.

Accepting full pledged politician role is a bold step by Vijay Deverakonda. Had he chosen a gripping subject, it would have helped him to reach wider audience out of his forte youth segment. We cannot call this role as miscasting, but Vijay’s image and CM role didn’t add up positively. Heroine (?) Mehreen role is equivalent to a guest appearance in length, hence cannot comment on her performance in guest role. Senior actors Nasser , Satyaraj got lengthy and cakewalk roles. Most of the drama in the film involves these two characters, performed well. In second half , Nasser makeup is very bad. M S Bhaskar, priyadarshi played key roles and are okay.

Review:

Vijay Devarakonda and Mehreen Prizada are playing the main lead roles in this movie. The first half of the movie runs on out and out serious mode. Couple of songs in the first half act as speed breakers. Missing novelty factor in the political setup is the big drawback so far. Overall, it’s an average first half at the best. Varun (Deverakonda) decided to play the political game, announces that Rowdy CM is coming. After an attack on his father Nassar, intelligence warns about a potential threat to Varun (Deverakonda) and his sister. The threat is also linked to a big money deal Varun has no clue about. – How a Swamiji is linked to the Nassar’s resignation from Chief Minister Post and reason why Varun (Deverakonda) is picked for CM is revealed.

Varun (Deverakonda) is moved by a death in the riots and takes charge of the situation. He passes strict orders to control the law and order irrespective of the party. – CBI arrests Varun’s (Deverakonda) father Nassar. Riots started in the state. Varun (Deverakonda) going to the Secretariat for the first time.

‘NOTA’ is a different film for Vijay Deverakonda who is riding on three back-to-back blockbusters ‘Pelli Choopulu’, ‘Arjun Reddy’ and ‘Geetha Govindam’ besides the blockbuster ‘Mahanati’ in which he played an extended cameo.

Santhana Krishnan provided authentic color tone for the political drama genre right from the first frame till the end. Though songs are not up to the mark, Sam takes the story forward with his brilliant background score. The run-time is also quite crisp for a political drama. There are no songs or action blocks to distract the viewer. The film is highly topical and will connect with the audiences, as all the recent happenings in Chennai like floods, CM hospitalisation, MLA 's in resort are all included.

In the end, NOTA is thrilling and gripping. Its a film that we recommend for the superb acting, and for the exciting dramatic highs. Anand Shankar and Vijay Devarakonda Serve Up A Classy Political Drama.
