It’s official! Rakul Preet Singh will be stepping into legendary actress Sridevi’s shoes in the biopic on late actor-filmmaker and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao.
After Vidya Balan was signed for the role of NTR’s first wife Basavatarakam, Rakul has been roped for the actress who worked with him in more than 14 films, which played a key role in laying the foundation of her career.
According to reports, Rakul was approached to play Sridevi in the biopic of legendary actor-politician NTR. It is said that Rakul has agreed in principle, but is yet to discuss her dates with the NTR biopic team.
It was earlier reported that actresses Sonakshi Sinha, Rakul Preet and Shraddha Kapoor were in contention to play Sridevi in the biopic. However, the makers have refuted the rumours and added that Rakul was their only choice.
Producer Vishnu Induri told a website, "We haven't approached Sonakshi, Kangana [Ranaut] or Shraddha. Rakul Preet is our only choice as she's popular in the South, especially in Telugu films. We have shot almost 30 per cent of the movie. Vidya [Balan, who plays NTR's wife] has already shot for six days. We are working on Rakul's dates for now."
According to Induri, Rakul's role in the NTR biopic is a cameo with a song and a few scenes. NTR and Sridevi had acted together in 14 films and the former was instrumental in shaping Sridevi's career. It will be great injustice to not mention her in the biopic of the legend.
On the work front, Rakul is busy with three Tamil films and a Hindi flick. She will be seen in Ajay Devgn's De De Pyaar De, Suriya's NGK, Karthi's Dev and Sivakarthikeyan's sci-fi film.
