Kaala registered the lowest opening-day box office collection upon release on June 7. However, the positive word of mouth soon helped boost the box office collection of the film during the weekend.
In five days of its release, the film has collected Rs 7.23 crore in Chennai alone.
According to trade reports, Kaala is doing extremely well in the overseas market. In Australia, the film has emerged as the second highest opening weekend grosser by earning Rs 2.04 crore in four days.

Kaala now stands at the second position in Australia, beating the likes of Veere Di Wedding, Bharat Ane Nenu and Carry On Jatta 2. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's Padmaavat tops the opening weekend grosser of 2018.

It also features Huma Qureshi, Nana Patekar, Sampath, Sayaji Shinde and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. The music of the film is composed by Santhosh Narayanan. Kaala marks the second collaboration between director Pa. Ranjith and actor Rajinikanth after Kabali.
