This Is The Most Crucial Phase Of My Career: Keerthi Suresh

The attention of movie buffs, over the past few months, have turned to Keerthy Suresh as the actress plays Savitri in the biopic titled Nadigaiyar Thilagam hitting the screens on May 9
Despite around 500 Tamil and Telugu films releasing every year, Nadigaiyar Thilagam ( Mahanati in Telugu), the biopic of actress Savitri has gone on to become the most-anticipated southern flick this year. Keerthy Suresh’s reprisal of the yesteryear actress has been the talking point of the film. “I haven’t watched the film yet. I’m dubbing for the film now and have just stepped out of the studio,” says Keerthy with palpable excitement in her tone.

Keerthy says that she didn’t accept the film immediately after director Nag Ashwin narrated to her the script. “I took my time to give the nod. Not because I was nervous about the comparison that will be made but at one point I doubted whether I was capable of performing the most challenging roles in my career. Only after I was completely convinced that I could justify the role, I agreed,” she explained. Keerthy says that she is happy about the way the movie’s posters and trailer have shaped up. “The audience is the best judge and when they are happy after a glimpse of the film’s posters and teasers, I am equally happy.

Even when I was on the sets, I was constantly asking myself if I could pull it off. Only after I got to know about my looks and other sneak-peeks from the film and was lauded by people, I was finally at ease. Nag hardly heaps praises on his cast on the sets. I read DTNext ’s interview with Nag and I was speechless when I saw that he praised me and had mentioned the similarities I shared with Savitri amma,” she smiles. The actress tells us that she is as excited as she is nervous ahead of the film’s release. Talking about her co-stars Samantha, Dulquer and Vijay Devarakonda, she says that the entire set felt like home. “We were like a family, giving our best individual performances for the film. There was absolutely no ego or competition among us,” she remarked. Apart from Nadigaiyar Thilagam , Keerthy also has Saamy Square, Sandakozhi 2 and Vijay 62 in her kitty.

“I would call this the ‘most crucial phase’ of my career. All these films have not only instilled the sense of responsibility in me but also helped me evolve as an artiste across industries. If you take Saamy Square , I play a role which is as important as Bhuvana’s in the first part. However, my role is not at all related to Trisha’s in the sequel. Also, when Lingusamy narrated the script of Sandakozhi 2 , it is as cute as Meera Jasmine’s in the first. So, the onus is on me to shoulder these characters responsibly.” As the conversation draws to close we couldn’t help but ask her about Vijay 62 .

“I’m not going to talk about it,” she quips and says, “I am thrilled to join Vijay yet again after Bairavaa. Both are different films and the combination of Vijay and AR Murugadoss is quite unique. Vijay 62 has been a great journey so far.”
