Indian Medical Association Protest In Kozhikode!!!

Doctors keeping off work have hit patient care at Vadakara, Nadapuram and Payyoli areas on Thursday. The doctors, under the banner of IMA, boycotted the outpatient (OP) wing at private hospitals and did not practice at homes/clinics. However emergency cases were attended. Doctors in the government sector kept off duty for an hour in the morning. The protest was against the police inaction in the attack on the residence of the retired District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr Shobhana Devi under Nadapuram police limits on January 28.

“The strike was near total. At a meeting held on Thursday, the doctors have decided to wait for a week for an arrest in the case failing which the strike would be extended to the whole district,” said IMA Vadakara chapter president Dr Savithri Hariprasad. She flayed the police for still groping in the dark even 40 days after the incident. According to IMA functionaries, a group of people had attacked the residence of Shobhana Devi when they were told to wait for some time for consultation.

Windowpanes, doors and flower pots were destroyed and the well of the house was polluted. Properties worth Rs 15,000 were said to have been destroyed. According to police, sections of the Hospital Protection Act have been slapped on the culprits and they had zeroed in on two suspects. One of the suspects was questioned and the other is at large, said a police source.
