Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Padmaavat ends its extended opening week on a splendid note. The magnum opus raked in Rs 11 crore yesterday and now stands with the grand total of Rs 166.50 crore. The film has shattered many box office records with this kind of whopping business.
The film is all set to cross the lifetime business of Bajirao Mastani by its second weekend to become the highest grosser of Ranveer Singh and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It will also achieve the Rs 200 crore mark in the upcoming days at the ticket window. While the film has already become Shahid Kapoor’s highest grosser of all time, the costume drama will soon be Deepika Padukone’s third 200 crore film after Chennai Express and Happy New Year. Produced under the banners of Sanjay Leela Bhansali productions and Viacom 18, Padmaavat also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad and Anupriya Goenka in key roles.
The makers of the film have already recovered good amount of chunk by selling satellite, streaming and audio rights. Before the release, the film faced many criticism and backlashes from a fringe group, in fact the makers had to pospone the release because of protests. The costume drama has received praises from critics and audience for direction, cinematography and star performances. Out of the complete star cast, Ranveer Singh grabbed the lime-light and stole the show in the film. Our film critic Urmimala Banerjee gave the film four stars and said, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film is a visual delight and thoroughly entertaining fare, courtesy the epic performance by Ranveer Singh.”
