Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man is all set to hit the theatres this Friday (February 9), and the actor is making sure that his film, which deals with the topic of menstrual hygiene (something which is still a taboo in India) reaches everyone, including the important people of the nation. Yesterday, he showed the film to the chief minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani. Today he is hosting a special screening of Pad Man the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Smriti Irani in Delhi. According to a report in Mid Day, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi might also join if his schedule permits.

As we told you, Akshay is making sure that the message of his film reaches a larger audience, which is why after the screening, he is going to pitch the idea of two-minute videos for Doordarshan. “Akshay met up with the PM yesterday. Today’s screening has been arranged for a specific reason. After the screening, Akshay will stress on how the film’s message needs to reach the larger population and will pitch the idea of making educational videos for Doordarshan,” a source was quoted by the tabloid. If everything falls in place then these two-minute videos will be directed by R Balki, who has also directed Pad Man. In these videos, Akshay will talk about menstrual hygiene and urge women in rural parts of the country to use sanitary napkins and not cloth.

Arunachalam Muruganantham, the social entrepreneur, who is an inspiration behind the film will also be there at the screening. He will raise the issue of GST and luxury tax levied on sanitary napkins. He will urge the ministers to exempt GST on sanitary napkins and make them available free of cost or at a subsidized rates.
